Thrive

Far beyond bricks and mortar, we’re creating vibrant neighbourhoods, public spaces and green areas, alongside essential facilities that help communities in Stockport thrive.

ABOUT

Backing our neighbourhoods and communities to thrive

Stockport’s town centre regeneration is about far more than building new homes, it’s about creating vibrant neighbourhoods where people can spend time, feel connected and enjoy life as a Stopfordian. Alongside new housing, we’re investing in the places and facilities that help communities thrive. Stockroom has reimagined the High Street as a welcoming cultural and creative centre for families, while the new Stockport Interchange has strengthened connectivity with a modern, green transport gateway. And we’re not stopping there!

SOCIAL INFRASTRUCTURE

Properly supported communities

To support our existing and growing communities, essential social infrastructure is being built, embedding education, health and community facilities into the fabric of the place from day one. A brand-new town centre secondary school will ensure residents are supported with excellent education while a state-of-the-art healthcare hub will offer accessible healthcare at the heart of the community. Stockport’s regeneration is designed to deliver long-term social and economic benefits, creating a town centre that works well for people and place, improving the quality of life for residents while creating a stronger, more prosperous town.

GREEN SPACES

A greener, healthier Stockport

New green spaces and welcoming walking and cycling routes are being woven through the town centre, promoting active travel and boosting biodiversity, bringing more nature into the heart of Stockport. These green corridors and public squares offer spots for people to meet, spend time and feel part of the community. By designing these spaces to be welcoming and well‑used, we’re helping build healthier, more active neighbourhoods where people can connect and unwind.

INDEPENDENT SPIRIT

Stockport’s growing independent scene

Stockport’s character is underpinned by a strong independent spirit. A great example of this is the Underbanks, where vacant, historic streets have been transformed into a thriving destination for independent and creative spaces. The area’s revival has established Stockport as one of the UK’s most exciting places to visit, offering distinctive leisure and retail experiences rooted in local enterprise. It’s become a hive of activity from day to night, attracting residents, visitors and businesses alike.

GREAT CONNECTIONS

Easy to get around

Stockport town centre is one of the best connected places in Greater Manchester, with fast, reliable links by bus and rail, with the tram on the way. The award‑winning Stockport Interchange provides modern Bee Network electric bus services and has been built tram‑ready for the confirmed Metrolink extension. Just a short walk away, Stockport railway station offers 7‑minute journeys into Manchester and direct services to London in under two hours. New walking and cycling routes are also reconnecting neighbourhoods, supporting greener travel and healthier lifestyles, while direct routes towards the Peak District make Stockport a gateway for weekend adventures.
